Business 101: What Do My Financial Documents Really Mean?

You are not an accountant, and probably never went to business school. But great contractors run their business on a monthly basis with the balance sheet and profit/loss as a road map to success.

We will dissect your financial documents that you bring to class and teach you how to interpret them to help you manage your business and properly price jobs. It is important to look at your documents each month and determine if you made or lost monies and why?

You’ll see great financials from successful contractors who consistently score 20% or more Net Profit in their companies and apply some of their techniques to your business. You should not be selling if you do not know if you are going to be profitable.

Remember, just because you are showing a profit, it does not mean the money is in the bank. Join us for a great class and bring your bookkeeper.

Pricing Strategies for Today's Contractor

The number one problem in the contracting industry today is ineffective pricing strategies. Rarely do contractors examine their market, analyze their financial documents, or react to cost changes in the industry by developing a comprehensive, departmental pricing plan. They seem to be busy during peak times of their season but somehow lose money because of lack of profitability.

Together we will attack each dealer’s individual market by reviewing a pricing survey of their own region. This will give some indication of how they are priced in relation to the competition. However, we do stress that it makes no difference if they are higher or lower than the competition. We’ll just show contractors how to make money, surpassing 20% net profit at the end of the year.

We will review pricing strategies used throughout the United States for new construction, service, replacement and accessories sales; then calculate the contractor’s breakeven for anything sold, using the dual overhead calculations from their financials. Next, we’ll add a profit margin to each job, completing the profit equation. Finally, we’ll discuss flat rate for both replacement and service work and why it is the easiest and most satisfying pricing strategy today for all businesses and their customers.

Territory and Dealer Development

Territory and Dealer Development is a program that teaches a Territory Manager how to properly analyze the potential of their territory, define their current dealers’ roles in the territory budget, incorporate new dealers and new markets, and develop a dealer into a 20% net profit company.

We will discuss through software and web-based instruction how the Manager may properly survey his existing territory and how to plan for its development.

Finally, we will spend one entire day on Dealer Development and the 3 things dealers must have and the 9 things dealers must do to be successful. We will help turn Territory Managers into Dealer Development Specialists to maximize the potential of the territory.

An optional Day Three would include worksheets and in-class presentation about specific key dealers and the development plan for each one.
